ASK ABSURD QUESTIONS… PART ONE

Thank you to everyone who sent a question our way, whether via our website or any of our social channels. We received so many great questions about A Better Paradise, American Caper, the Absurdaverse, and all of our various projects here at Absurd Ventures – far too many to answer in one go – so consider this inaugural edition to be part one of an ongoing series. Look for part two to be published sometime in the next month or two and, in the meantime, please do keep your comments coming so that we may consider them for an upcoming edition of Ask Absurd Questions…

Ask Absurd Questions Part One

How do you determine which each IP gets the video game, comic book, tv series, film, graphic novel, etc, treatment?@kayz5428 (via YouTube)

It’s really a natural process of where the story takes us and what makes the most sense to tell it. With A Better Paradise, it is such a visually rich world the deeper you get into it, that at first we were thinking of it as a graphic novel. But, the initial story as it is told beginning in Volume One: An Aftermath, evolved into a collection of first-person accounts from key people involved with Tyburn Utopias and their development of the Daisy’s Ark project – and we really wanted to get into their heads and have you hear exactly what they experienced – so it began to make much more sense as a novel-type experience with the story told as personal monologues. American Caper, on the other hand, is a much more freewheeling crime fiction tale with a much bigger ensemble cast, and an almost neo-noirish satirical feel – which felt best to experience in an illustrated way – and we’d always wanted to properly do a comic book series, so this was a perfect fit. Our aim is always for every story to be crafted specifically for its medium across games, books, comics, audio, animation, live action projects, or any other places we wind up.

Are there plans for an A Better Paradise live action TV series?@instathis5 (via Instagram)
Will there be any other kinds of media for American Caper - TV show, movie?@poopypeanutbuddarphotos (via Instagram)
Any chance we get a TV show or movie from you guys?@josephrakhamim (via Instagram)

Certainly a chance! We have been in early development and discussions around a TV project for A Better Paradise for a little while now but are taking our time and balancing against our other projects. As far as American Caper, anything is possible, but right now we are all in and focused on the comic book series.

Absurd Ventures presents AMERICAN CAPER. A new crime fiction saga and original comic book series from the mind of Dan Houser.
Once all 12 issues of American Caper are out, will you guys release a collector's edition or bundle?(received via email)
I am absolutely loving the American Caper comics.. I know there will be in total 12 issues for the series... will you be doing a full compendium edition with all 12 issues in one edition?(received via email)

American Caper will be collected into trade paperback volumes. Volume 1 (“Red-Pilled Blues”) which collects issues 1-4 will be released next month on July 14; Volume 2 (“Cowboys and Conspiracies”) which collects issues 5-8 will be available on October 27; and Volume 3 (“There Lies Madness”) which collects issues 9-12 will be available next year on March 2, 2027. You can pre-order all of those now via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your local comic shop or bookstore, and the first volume at the Absurd Ventures Store. It is possible we may release a hardcover graphic novel edition collecting all twelve issues at some point down the line. In the meantime, single issues through the season finale of Issue #12 will continue to be released monthly throughout this year. We may or may not be reprinting those original single issue releases and so we encourage fans to get them while you can! If you haven’t yet, you can put them on a pull list at your local comic shop which is the best way to ensure you collect them all, and we will also continue to offer some copies for sale at the Absurd Store. We also plan to create a second arc/season of American Caper and hope to have details to share on that at some point this year.

Does Absurd have an IP or IPs that still haven’t been revealed?@lezaklol8068 (via YouTube)

Yes - we are working on some other stuff as well. Although for now everything will fall within the three overarching universes of A Better Paradise, the Absurdaverse, and American Caper.

What’s planned for localization?@alberto.pereira.01 (via Instagram)
Are you going to translate the physical books and the comic?@ken7.77777999 (via Instagram)
When are you going to release your novels and comics in French?@EIPresti (via YouTube)

We absolutely intend to release as many of our projects as possible localized in as many languages as possible, as we see the demand. We are actively working on this both for the A Better Paradise novels and the American Caper comics. So far, we have announced the upcoming French edition of American Caper which will be published by Urban Comics; Volume 1 of that will be released on September 4. Please stay tuned for more updates regarding localizations to come and thank you for your patience and support!

When you guys first published the first teaser trailer for Absurd Ventures, did it include any easter eggs regarding your projects? In the last couple of years, you have dropped loads of teaser trailers with hidden messages across all of them. Are there easter eggs we might be missing, and should fans even be looking?(received via email)

Yes – it was almost entirely made up of easter eggs and that's all we will say on the matter!

What genre(s) is best used to describe the two video game projects? And what perspective (1st or 3rd) are they?(received via email)

Both of the titles that we are currently developing will be open world action-adventure and in 3rd person. One is set in the science-fiction thriller universe of A Better Paradise and the other is set in our satirical comedy universe, the Absurdaverse; however, we have not announced specific titles or further details as yet. A little more info can be found at https://www.absurdventures.com/videogames.

Currently, three games are reportedly in development: -A AAA open-world game, A Better Paradise, in collaboration with Smilegate. - An open-world action-adventure comedy game set in the Absurdaverse universe. - A single-player narrative game, American Caper. What are the initial release dates for these three games?@Chris_Klippel (via X)

It is a bit too early to share any release date timings for either of our video game projects, but we are very excited to reveal first details about them when the time is right. And just to clarify, we are currently in development on two games – one set in the A Better Paradise world and one set in the Absurdaverse world. We may or may not make a game in the future tied to American Caper.

Why is Dan Houser doing a lot more interviews and public events compared to when he was still at Rockstar? Btw, I love it!@instathis5 (via Instagram)

Glad to hear you have been enjoying all the various interviews that came out late last year with IGN, Lex Fridman, The Guardian, BBC, Virgin Radio and more. With the fall 2025 releases of the A Better Paradise novel, and the launch of the American Caper comic book series, Dan had a lot to talk about and was also happy to chat a bit about previous work on Grand Theft Auto and other classic releases. Dan did tons of interviews back in the day, although mostly for print media and websites rather than podcasts. Glad you’re liking the foray into podcast interviews. We will always try to support releases of our new games, books or whatever with media and we’ll try to be somewhat interesting while doing so!

Do you prefer telling stories set in the past, present, or future?@gorllorl (via Instagram)

We love it all. Of our current projects, A Better Paradise is set in the future, and American Caper and the Absurdaverse are contemporary (however you can find some fun and odd little flashbacks to the early 2000s in some issues of American Caper).

Prepare to meet some new kinds of heroes (and watch them suffer).
When can we expect to hear anything about Absurdaverse animations?@lezaklol8068 (via YouTube)

We world premiered the first animated shorts from the Absurdaverse at an exclusive event as part of the Netflix Is A Joke festival in Los Angeles last month at the Hollywood Improv which also featured live standup comedy from some of the voices from the Absurdaverse ensemble cast including Dan Soder, Ari Matti, Annie Lederman, Yamaneika Saunders, and Steph Tolev. Stay tuned for information about future screenings and ways to see these first bits of fun from the Absurdaverse for yourself…

Is Absurdaverse a new franchise? Or is it a universe that will encompass several franchises? Could we see adaptations of A Better Paradise or American Caper within the Absurdaverse universe?@Chris_Klippel (via X)

The Absurdaverse universe is totally separate from the A Better Paradise and American Caper universes. Expect to hear about specific series and releases that take place within the Absurdaverse – we hope to have details to start sharing about that this year.

A Better Paradise Volume One: An Aftermath by Dan Houser
Should we first listen to the A Better Paradise audio show or read the novel?(received via email)

In our opinion, there is no wrong answer here! It’s really whatever suits your preference, as each edition has been tailored for its respective format. We think the story works well as a written novel in prose, but is also excellently read by Ray Porter in the narrated audiobook edition on Audible if you prefer to listen to your books. And then of course there is the original 2024 audio fiction podcast on Spotify, Apple, etc with stellar performances from Andrew Lincoln, Paterson Joseph, Rain Spencer, Shamier Anderson and others – however it is worth mentioning that the 2025 novel and audiobook have some more details and story elements in them than the original podcast, and we edited it down to be slightly tighter, so it is a bit updated and enhanced in that respect as a slightly more definitive version.

I read that Lazlow said in an interview that if you listen closely to A Better Paradise, fans can pick up hints and clues about what the game might be like. Will Volume 2 give us any additional insight or more of these hints about the game's story, setting, or gameplay?(received via email)

Definitely – we will have more information on future A Better Paradise universe releases soon.

Stay tuned for the next edition of this series and, in the meantime, keep asking Absurd questions…
